Overview — Family Services
The need to care for children and the provision of services to carers that support them is the cornerstone of Ikamva Labantu's mission. The focus of the Family Services Sector (FSS) is to build the capacity of affiliated carers which will enhance the care of orphans and vulnerable children. Carers are all people taking care of unsupported children on either a full- or part-time basis and in different capacities. Carers under the FSS initiative are Foster Mothers, Magnificent Mothers and Fathers, Home Carers, Community Angels, Grandparents and Siblings.

Masakhane — A Pilot Project
This project, an initiative of Ikamva Labantu in association with Remgro (a South African Investment Holding Company), was launched in Philippi East in order to determine the number of unsupported children in the community. One of its aims was to create a standard model of intervention that could be replicated elsewhere in the country.
