October was a jam-packed month for Ikamva Labantu and its related sectors. We've tried to capture the excitement and energy of the month's activities in this newsletter — we hope you enjoy the read.

First up, Ikamva Labantu's Family Services sector, which deals with vulnerable children within the context of their families, is growing from strength to strength. Our staff complement now totals 12 and with October came the opportunity to develop our skills. Three more of our staff members underwent accredited training in Child/Youth and Family work.

Fun Day

Discovery Health sponsored a "Fun Day" at Ikamva Labantu's Rainbow Centre in Gugulethu. One hundred children were treated to enjoyable educational activities, which included learning to care for animals and how to save money.

Winter warmers

Discovery Health also sponsored a "Winter initiative", in which children received scarves and blankets that the staff had knitted. Ikamva Labantu are grateful to Mahesh and his team from Discovery Health for organising such a wonderful event.

Winning formula

Ikamva Labantu was the only community-based organisation to take part in Sports Day (an event organized by regional childcare organizations). The event saw a number of children's homes enjoying a wonderful atmosphere.

International helping hands

The children from Form J2F at Knightsbridge School (in London, England) have chosen Ikamva Labantu as their charity of choice. Two of the school's pupils, Markos Glucksman and Gaia Della Ragione, started the ball rolling by giving all the money they'd received from friends and family for their birthdays to the children of Ikamva Labantu. It's this generosity of spirit that helps IKamva Labantu survive and prosper. Thank you, Markos and Gaia!

Best regards
The Ikamva Labantu team
